WASHINGTON UTILITIES COORDINATING COUNCIL
CALL 1-800-424-5555 BEFORE YOU DIG

PURPOSE

The Washington Utilities Coordinating Council was originally established in 1972. It began in other forms as early as 1950 when local utility forums were created.

The purpose of this statewide organization of utilities, governmental agencies, contractors, excavators, and other interested organizations and individuals is to cooperate to reduce damages to subsurface structures as well as above ground facilities; thereby promoting safety and protecting the public interest.

Through COMMUNICATIONCOORDINATION and COOPERATION, the WUCC works to achieve the orderly planning and installation of underground facilities. Because more and more utilities are being placed underground, communication, coordination and cooperation are vital.

The WUCC actively assists and promotes the formation of local utility coordinating councils.

Also, each December the WUCC selects one of its members to receive the Fritz Berntsen meritorious service award. This coveted award is given for outstanding contribution toward supporting the aims and purposes of the WUCC. The award is inscribed on a perpetual plaque and presented to the recipient at the December quarterly meeting.
